Technical Aids Tips and Tricks XXVIII

星期五, 一月 18th, 2013

The medically proven positive effect of hop blossom ice tea, or disdainfully just called beer, is generally known.

“Cold wheat soup” dope

is extensively carried out, especially in Bavaria with state recognition.

If you are not able to remove the crown cap of the medicine bottle any more due to the paralysis of your hands, illness, stroke or too much doping, there is only one thing to help, the

One-arm-hop-blossom-ice-tea-bottle-opener

Source of supply of this ingenious aid without medical device number is amongst others

the company www.Mehal.de

I have already reported about their knife holder (see older blogpost).

Here is a link to other helpful special openers:

Type I bottle / jar opener

Type II bottle / jar opener

2. self-developed technical aid, my medicine bottle opener

Type I canpull opener

Type II can opener

Security advice: Too much doping can influence the driving characteristics of your wheelchair substantially.

Special thanks to Technical Aids Stuntman Ochim, who immediately volunteered to test the opener with video evidence.

It’s nothing new that you gain one or more kilos weight at Christmas, but what is too much is too much.

I am shocked and deeply embarrassed how extreme the gorging was this time.

I was shocked about my dimensions on the photo when I compared both pictures with each other.

Between the drawing by Anna, made on 24.12.2012 on the right, and the photo on the left made on 28.12.2012, is only

4 days difference…!!!

Help, … please give me wheeler compliant tips so that I reach the drawing shape quickly…!!!

Thanks for the great picture ;-)

Happy New Year!

星期三, 一月 2nd, 2013

Wishing you all a “Happy New Year”, especially health and always a smile in your face.

No joke, this actually happened directly on January 1st… I was speechless!!!

I was on Lanzarote for a couple of days for a FreeWheel test week and was flying back yesterday.

It’s nothing new that I divert all kind of things from their intended use and declare them to be technical aids.
In the plane a passenger who sat in the same row did the same.

I willingly pass on interesting and smart ideas.

Apparently he didn’t finish his tasty plane meal.

Thereupon he used to my surprise the airplane oral emission spitting bag* which is quite suitable for technical reasons because of its aluminium coating as doggy bag.

He stored it securely until he left the plane in the bag of the front seat and took it with him then.

Well, enjoy your meal then, I pass on this saving tip without prejudice!!!

Night of the Proms 2012

星期日, 十二月 23rd, 2012

Yesterday I had again a great evening in the time-honoured concert hall “Festhalle” in Frankfurt (year of construction 1907) at the

Night of the Proms 2012

This time except traditionally with John Miles, the concert orchestra Il Novecentro” and others, as Special Guests

Anastacia,

Mick Hucknall (Simply Red)

also the “Echo” winners 2012 (German music award), Jupiter Jones.

After the concert at the wheelchair exit he was suddenly standing next to me,

Nicolas Müller, the singer of Jupiter Jones!!!

If you press the remote control of the park heating from your car in the concert hall during the encore you will always have a warm car afterwards. This is easily 100 meter linear distance.

Such an old sandstone building is really good, but not very useful in continuous rain like yesterday either.

Sad, sad, sad…!!!

When I saw this new disabled toilet in a hospital I started thinking a little and got my camera first of all.

This toilet is disabling!!!

I consider the equipment and construction, described in friendly words, as unfortunate solution and declare this disabled toilet to be the patient.

It all starts that hardly any wheelchair user can lock the sliding door from the inside because the lock is mounted quite high. This is also possible in a different way, see older blogpost.

The transfer from wheelchair to toilet would be quite painful if not dangerous because no second handle is mounted next to the toilet. I don’t know the official regulation, but I consider two handles in a hospital disabled toilet as a matter of course.

The toilet paper holder is currently out of work. The paper roll was probably thrown into the toilet or taken away for handicrafts by the last guest because not even a dustbin is at hand.

Considering the distance to the wall, the fishing for toilet is paper is a bit tricky anyway…!!!

Maybe with some physiotherapy the new toilet paper roll under the toilet might be reachable without involuntary floor transfer.

I don’t know if the fact of

anticipated grossly negligent non-assistance

exists, but this is the case here.

A not unwound emergency cord is not acceptable for me. I would have unwound it, but I definitely can’t do it with my motor functions…!!!

It is also possible in a different way. In the pool shower in the wheelchair hotel Mar y Sol in Tenerife (see older blogposts) several emergency buttons are ideally mounted on ground level.

My friend said, when I am not able to lock the door anyway it is not necessary either to reach the emergency cord when I am lying on the floor.

I would just need to crawl to the door and wait for the next patient.

After 15 years of shift work as pedestrian and now since 5 years as frequent driver in a wheelchair I could be addressed by this sign.

I am said to bang my head against a wall sometimes, but a sign directing to the wall is even new to me ;-)

“Passing for handicapped and shift-workers only”

What might be hidden behind the wall???

Click on tag “Signs”, there is more to see…

Thanks to Thomas B. for this snapshot.

Winter tip

星期一, 十二月 10th, 2012

Prepare – put salt on the ground BEFORE the snow falls!

2 years ago I had the biggest difficulties in winter to get from my wheelchair into the car.

After the snow fell, it froze on the ground to a single layer of ice right next to my door. This caused my wheelchair during transfer to constantly slip which was terrible :-(

After my friends had removed the ice shelf next to my “Ferrari”, came the nice men from the county road service to clean the street and pushed a mountain of snow right next to my car.

So I still could not get in to the car!!!!!

Before the next snow fall I had all of a sudden salt already laying there next to my door for immediate defrosting. Miraculously, the salt seems to be falling from the sky, as there is hardly ever any ice and snow on the road next to my “Pole”…!!!!!
