German Football League Record

Saturday, September 22nd, 2012

I would like to thank

Eintracht Frankfurt

sincerely for yesterday’s birthday present in terms of the victory

Nuremberg : Frankfurt

and the associated German football league record for a promoted team of 12 points in the first 4 matches.

Special Edition!!

Tuesday, April 24th, 2012

Aachen : Eintracht

0 : 3

Mission completed, direct repromotion.

The orthosis was helpful!!!

(see older blogpost)

For the championship celebration 2013 I voluntarily put on the orthosis again.

I am still slightly in „repromotion-mania “!
If my neighbour wouldn’t have called and reminded me of an appointment my car still would have winter tyres… well then… never mind ;-)

Feedback on the shinbone fracture part II

Monday, March 12th, 2012

Whereas for a pedestrian the growing together of the bones after a leg fracture without surgery is assessed with roundabout 6 weeks, it is around 6 months for us para-/quadriplegics. This is related to paralysis, blood circulation etc.

After the fracture of shinbone and fibula in early September a plastic leg orthosis was my permanent companion.

I have reported extensively about the fracture, hospital stay,…(see older blogposts), then you know the complete story.

As self-confessed football fan of Eintracht Frankfurt I got of course the special edition Frankfurt.

leg orthosis type: direct re-promotion

In the complete time during which I was wearing the orthosis Eintracht didn’t lose a single match. I am closely connected to my club and sit out almost everything, but eventually I wanted to get rid of the orthosis.

Just in the moment when I slowly began to do without the orthosis – how nice… -, a match was lost. The re-promotion was at risk!

I wasn’t sure, was it my fault???

What next… should I have to wear the orthosis until the German championship title 2013???

Yesterday I didn’t put on the orthosis the whole day and was worried that Eintracht wouldn’t lose the match.

Of all things the opponent was Rostock. There was an occasion in the early 90s, I don’t want to remember this match… (translator’s note: 20 years ago Eintracht lost against Rostock on the last matchday of the season and thus didn’t win the German championship title.)

Rostock : Eintracht

1 : 5

The spell was „broken“ and the fracture will heal soon!!!
The orthosis is standing well next to the closet and is only put on when needed.

For the championship celebration 2013 I voluntarily put on the orthosis again.

Addendum 2 Chock X

Monday, October 10th, 2011

As mentioned, even the white orthosis was at some stage finalized, and I left the hospital.
The great thing with this kind of orthosis is that you can bend your leg. Therefore you are quite mobile in the flat because you can sit in your own wheelchair. The leg should be rested in an elevated position as much as possible, which I realize with two flower stools and a cushion. The transfer to bed, shower… is ok.
With the rented

“Tank Wheelchair”,

in which you are supposed to drive with outstretched leg, independent navigation even in the flat is not possible for me.
This thing makes no headway, and it doesn’t have hand rim coats either.
Furthermore with this size I would need a new set of furniture after two weeks. A transfer to the bed is very critical, even with a second person.
A trip outside with pusher can’t be expected from anyone. At the

White Orthosis

the finetuning was still missing. Now it fits ;-)

Master Gepetto from the orthopedic craft shop actually managed to finalize the orthosis on Thursday afternoon so that nothing stands in the way of being released from the hospital. However I have to correct the naming of the orthosis. The name snow lionpard is invalid.

At closer examination it is clearly the model known from Star Wars:

Imperial Clone Trooper

After three wins in a row I have hung up the Eintracht Frankfurt pennant above my bed at home as well.

Technical Aids for Quadriplegics

Thursday, November 11th, 2010

With my buckled Tetra fingers I can’t open cans any more.

I think that I might succeed some day with this

plastic bow

The can is standing on a non-slip mat (see older blogpost).

The leverage is considerable.

The opener is distributed by the Company Brix Denmark.
The company produces other openers as well.

With this part it should be possible to open an

Eintracht- Frankfurt Adlerschoppe

It is incomprehensible to me why the plastic bow is called J-Popper.
Let’s think about it…

Wheelchair Tuning Part XV

Sunday, September 26th, 2010

Every now and then even I am speechless.
It’s not a secret that I am football fan of Eintracht Frankfurt.
My cousin has given the official

Eintracht Frankfurt Fan Rucksack

to me as a present. Of course I have positively noticed that the rucksack has plenty of reflectors.
This rucksack has additionally two hangers on the side.
The only logically use of these hangers is to be able to hang the rucksack over the handles of a wheelchair.

Simply great, it fits!

Wheelchair hangers

Was it a manufacturing error, or did they have a wheelchair driver as designer?
This rucksack is of course “not“ available for other football clubs.

Tetrapack II

Sunday, March 21st, 2010

There is a football god after all!!!

I have reported in one of my first blogposts how another Eintracht Frankfurt football fan I didn’t know gave me his 17 year old

yellow Tetrapak Eintracht Frankfurt football shirt
(see older blogpost)

, which I was looking for.
As if I had anticipated it, I decided on Saturday 2 hours before kick-off of the match

Eintracht Frankfurt vs. Bayern Munich

to call my cousin to watch the match with him live on TV. I should mention that at this time Bayern Munich was unbeaten for the last 19 matches, and my cousin and I had endured the 0:4 home match loss against these Southern Germans half a year ago in the stadium.
Well then, my cousin had told his colleague my story with the yellow Tetrapak football shirt, whereupon he gave him a couple of weeks ago his old

red Tetrapak football shirt

for me.
Heaven only knows why Stefan came as well yesterday of all days to watch football with us.
Eintracht played great.
Within the last 4 minutes they could turn the 0:1 score with two goals and sent Bayern home with

The photo was made before the match.

It shows the girlfriend of my cousin, Stefan and me.

FuĂźballticket auf Rezept

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009

Tetrapack I

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

We quadriplegics (or: tetraplegics) name ourselves among each other “Teddies” or sometimes “Tetra Pack”. Because I am football fan of Eintracht Frankfurt I remembered that Eintracht promoted around 1995 “Tetra Pak” (translator’s note: trademark of a beverage carton) on their football shirts. These football shirts were at that time exceptionally in bright yellow.

To cut it short: I was in need for such a shirt!!!

But how do you get a more than 10 year old football shirt which was quite rare even at that time because most of the fans prefer the traditional Eintracht colours red and black. I hate it when somebody tells me what they flogged in Ebay and how they boosted the price. It’s normal, you will hear.
The Ebay results were poor.
I have then started my football shirt search in various fan forums.
The feedback was remarkable!
Unfortunately almost all offers were black-red football shirts.
Nobody told me which price they had in mind what I am usually used to!!!
I was stunned.
Should it be possible that nobody tries to rip me off this time?
It is unbelievable, but another Eintracht fan has not only given his as good as new yellow football shirt as a present to me, but didn’t even want to have the postage refunded.
His comment: I will give the football shirt to you for free if I can do you a favour with this. Regarding the money, I don’t want anything for the shirt or the postage. But maybe we meet some time at a match, then you can pay for the half-time beer :-)
I was really happy!
I had to mention it, it helps more than any of my other 12 pills.
