In an older blogpost I have bashed a little on this wheelchair, I would like to apologize for that.
The special wheelchair with cross tyres was standing in India.
It is one of worldwide

530.000 Low-Budget Wheelchairs

(April 2012 already 639.000)

in 77 countries which have been especially developed by the organization

and donated to people in need.
The target of the project is to provide 20 million wheelchairs worldwide for free.
Each wheelchair costs only 59,20 USD including delivery.

Have you ever considered the donation of a wheelchair?
Just “go“ to the website of FWM and have a look.

Unbelievable but true, a tool kit is inside the footrest.

Wheelchair Tuning Part XV

Every now and then even I am speechless.
It’s not a secret that I am football fan of Eintracht Frankfurt.
My cousin has given the official

Eintracht Frankfurt Fan Rucksack

to me as a present. Of course I have positively noticed that the rucksack has plenty of reflectors.
This rucksack has additionally two hangers on the side.
The only logically use of these hangers is to be able to hang the rucksack over the handles of a wheelchair.

Simply great, it fits!

Wheelchair hangers

Was it a manufacturing error, or did they have a wheelchair driver as designer?
This rucksack is of course “not“ available for other football clubs.

Some days ago I made a ride on my hand cycle.
(see older blogpost, trade hand cycle off for therapy pony).

My wife accompanied me on her bicycle.
I was more than positively surprised that the city of Frankfurt eventually managed to tar the old gravel path on the river Main after centuries.

It was going downstream, the cycle was rolling and rolling…

Unfortunately there is an express highway between the bicycle path on the river and two districts of the city. Because I can’t take the pedestrian bridge with my wheelchair and wanted to go to the street fair in one of the districts I had to ride further until after perceived 20 km, probably really 3 km, there was eventually a traffic light.

I had fairly shot my bolt.

After a bratwurst and a hop blossom ice tea * my motivation for the return ride was shattered.

When I was slowly riding home, I already fancied using the tram, I coincidentally met a former colleague, let’s call him Harald, with his

Didi Thurau – Memory Bicycle.

(translator’s note: famous German road bicycle racer from the 70’s and 80’s)

We had rather the same destination.

He pushed me sitting on his bike!

Without breaks, we reached a top speed of up to
26 Km/h on the 8 km way home.

My electric wheelchair tractive Speedy-Elektro only makes
max. 6 Km/h, otherwise it would need a license plate.

If Harald should have had a license plate???

Thanks again from this side.

Comment of my wife:
I am not used to such a speed any more as I usually roll with perceived 5 km/h behind the hand cycle and my biggest sporty challenge is not to fall from the bike at this “speed”, so that today my muscles are kind of sore for the first time.

Flower ramp

Saturday, August 28th, 2010

Frontpage

Also this year, my neighbour has planted flowers at my

2 mÂł concrete ramp

and turned it to a

flower ramp

Simply brilliant, thanks from this side, looks great.

The floridity meanwhile turns into a jungle-like status.
It‘s growing and growing!

Another two weeks, and I need a machete when I want to leave the house.

I was training this situation already in the botanical garden in Frankfurt.

Wheelchair Petrol Station

Monday, July 19th, 2010

Frontpage

As you probably have noticed I am sometimes almost a professional complainer. One forgets to mention positively when lifts are available, curbs are lowered, or if someone really thought ahead.
Everyone can imagine that it is extremely inconvenient when you as a wheelchair driver are alone in your car, you lack of petrol and need to refuel.
The big company with the

Yellow Shell

has nicely enough re-established since a couple of years the

classic petrol station attendant

Fuel, air, water, oil and payment are “going” without saying. It is always quite funny when I roll to the station without car and want to get the air pressure of my wheelchair tyres checked.

The petrol company with the

“five legged, water shooting, black dog”

is offering a special

wheelchair service!

Sticker text: “We help – please honk!”

Here you can enjoy honking.

An error has crept into the picture, the chips cost 1,42 €.

Simply Great! Part II

Until my accident I was working as service technician at Frankfurt Airport for a widely known broom yellow logistician.
The building is one of the largest at the airport with a great view onto the airfield.
In the topmost floor there is a big room,

The Sky Lounge

in which management meetings, press conferences,
 are held.
I have been once a year in this room just to inspect a ladder.

On 24.06.2010 I received in the Sky Lounge an official

Farewell!

At this point many thanks again to the initiators of this event.
I still can’t believe what happened there.

I know, I am lagging behind for a few days with this blogpost, but I needed some time to let it sink in.

As already reported in blogpost Eigude Shame VII , the

“mirror socks” on my car

were stolen before the match Germany vs. England (4:1), and the German flag was broken off. An old friend of mine has fixed together with his girlfriend in a conspirative underground mission new

World Cup mirror socks

to my car.
Great mission. Thanks again to both of you!
Probably my mate now has his upper body full of welts like a galley slave as I was forced due to lack of parking space to park very, very close to a hedge. Such a guy from German disaster relief can’t be stopped by anything.

Everything just in time before the friendly match against Argentina.

Germany – Argentina 4:0

God is no Argentinian after all.
Bye-bye Maradonna, have a good flight, handballer!

Semi-final, go Germany…
(Behind me is not my mentioned mate).

It is nothing new that the health insurances are currently in financial difficulties.

The saving-mania reaches unforeseen dimensions.

To save mounting costs technical aids will be delivered to all in need as construction kits only.
It is stopped not even at kids.

Look yourself, the new

Constructy 2101 for do-it-yourself mounting

The advantage of the Constructy 2101 is that the size can be easily adjusted with a couple of bricks.

For adults the wheelchair components are pre-fabricated in Sweden.

But seriously: Pictures from Kids medical supply (KindersanitÀtshaus).

Simply great, keep it up!!!

There is a football god after all!!!

I have reported in one of my first blogposts how another Eintracht Frankfurt football fan I didn’t know gave me his 17 year old

yellow Tetrapak Eintracht Frankfurt football shirt
(see older blogpost)

, which I was looking for.
As if I had anticipated it, I decided on Saturday 2 hours before kick-off of the match

Eintracht Frankfurt vs. Bayern Munich

to call my cousin to watch the match with him live on TV. I should mention that at this time Bayern Munich was unbeaten for the last 19 matches, and my cousin and I had endured the 0:4 home match loss against these Southern Germans half a year ago in the stadium.
Well then, my cousin had told his colleague my story with the yellow Tetrapak football shirt, whereupon he gave him a couple of weeks ago his old

red Tetrapak football shirt

for me.
Heaven only knows why Stefan came as well yesterday of all days to watch football with us.
Eintracht played great.
Within the last 4 minutes they could turn the 0:1 score with two goals and sent Bayern home with

2:1

The photo was made before the match.

It shows the girlfriend of my cousin, Stefan and me.

Tenerife is in the south west exceedingly accessible.

Almost everything accessible, excellent service at the airport, everywhere ramps and a special handicapped beach with planks for us wheelchair and scooter drivers.

Simply great!
The only disadvantage is that Tenerife is a volcano island.

Hills, hills, hills

You can rent “trikes” everywhere for little money ;-)

We quadriplegics (or: tetraplegics) name ourselves among each other “Teddies” or sometimes “Tetra Pack”. Because I am football fan of Eintracht Frankfurt I remembered that Eintracht promoted around 1995 “Tetra Pak” (translator’s note: trademark of a beverage carton) on their football shirts. These football shirts were at that time exceptionally in bright yellow.

To cut it short: I was in need for such a shirt!!!

But how do you get a more than 10 year old football shirt which was quite rare even at that time because most of the fans prefer the traditional Eintracht colours red and black. I hate it when somebody tells me what they flogged in Ebay and how they boosted the price. It’s normal, you will hear.
The Ebay results were poor.
I have then started my football shirt search in various fan forums.
The feedback was remarkable!
Unfortunately almost all offers were black-red football shirts.
Nobody told me which price they had in mind what I am usually used to!!!
I was stunned.
Should it be possible that nobody tries to rip me off this time?
It is unbelievable, but another Eintracht fan has not only given his as good as new yellow football shirt as a present to me, but didn’t even want to have the postage refunded.
His comment: I will give the football shirt to you for free if I can do you a favour with this. Regarding the money, I don’t want anything for the shirt or the postage. But maybe we meet some time at a match, then you can pay for the half-time beer :-)
I was really happy!
I had to mention it, it helps more than any of my other 12 pills.
